To fully understand the lifetime of artificial eyelash extension one must understand the natural life cycle of eyelashes. All hair on your body grows in phases. There are three phases to be exact: Growth, Resting and Shedding. Eyelashes are some of the most fleeting hairs on your body. In only 60 to 90 days a lashes lifecycle has fully come and gone. This is a mere blink of the eye when compared to other hairs on your head. Before a natural lash even falls out at maturity a new lash has already started its growing phase in its place. This process is nonstop, with people shedding anywhere from 1 to 5 natural eyelashes each day. This means that you could lose 1 to 5 eyelash extensions per day. This is perfectly normal and to be expected with or without lash extensions. When the natural lash grows to maturity at the end of its growing cycle the eyelash extension attached to it will fall out as well.

When a eyelash extension falls out it is more noticeable than a natural lash shedding because they are bother darker and longer than natural eyelashes. Due to the natural shedding of eyelashes on a daily basis, regular ‘refills’ or ‘touch-ups’ are required to keep your lash extensions looking their best. To maintain the full, healthy appearance of freshly installed lash extensions we recommend regular touch-ups every 2-4 weeks. With regular ‘touch-up’ appointments one can maintain optimal appearance indefinitely! Intriguing questions indeed!  Some people ask if they are tied on. Others ask if they are bonded like some types of hair extensions. Eyelash Extensions are neither tied nor bonded to your natural eyelashes, because it would be very difficult if not impossible due to their very fine and tiny size.

So, how are eyelash extensions applied? Waterproof adhesive is the only way to apply Eyelash Extensions to your natural eyelashes. Black, waterproof adhesive or glue is bar none the most popular as it gives the convincing illusion of perfect mascara. No clumping. No put on-take off daily routine. This black adhesive combined with your natural lash and synthetic lashes is the perfect semi-permanent mascara! Of course there are different adhesive grades available depending on what you are comfortable using.  This will range pharmaceutical/medical rated adhesive which is non-irritating and fume-free to glues that are fast drying and last a little longer but can be irritating to very sensitive skin.

In a quiet room with your back on the massage table you will enjoy dim lights and soft music as you lay peacefully with your eyes closed. First, your stylist will use medical grade non-stick tape and tape down your bottom eyelashes. Clients have expressed this is the biggest nausance of the whole process. Proper care is taken to do this in effort to avoid inadvertently glueing your bottom lashes to your top eyelashes. A tiny drop of black adhesive is placed on a stone. Tweezers are used to isolate an individual eyelash. The artificial eyelash extension is dipped in the medical grade adhesive then positioned on top of the natural eyelash. This process is repeated for up to 2 hours until the desired fullness of lashes is received.

Great question! With all the time, effort and money you’ve invested into your luxurious lashes you want to be sure that you don’t go home to destroy them. Answering the question: how to care for eyelash extensions can be broken down into three parts: The First 48 Hours, Common Sense and Solvents.

The first 48 hours are critical! Remember that you’ve just had fine, tiny synthetic hairs intricately glued individually to your natural lashes. As with most things involving glue, there is a drying time. Installing eyelash extensions takes about 2 hours, but the full drying time takes between 24 to 48 hours! Here are some tips for the first 48 hours:

• Avoid getting your new eye lashes moist with water, creams, cleansers or any other type of product during the initial 24 hours. Let your new eyelashes be! This will come easy, because your eyelashes will be vibrant, fresh and gorgeous.
• Do not pull, scratch, rub, or tug at your new eyelashes.

Common Sense is a must! Natural eyelashes by themselves without eyelash extensions are not permanent, 1 to 5 lashes fall out every day. Just because you now have eyelashes extensions, doesn’t mean your eyelashes are invincible. You ask “How to care for eyelash extensions?” we say, “Use common sense!”

• Avoid rubbing your eyes excessively to create undue stress on your natural eyelashes and your new eyelash extensions.
• Avoid excessively hot baths, showers or steam rooms. High heat will change the adhesive’s optimal chemical properties and lead to faster break down of the glue.
• Do not use a eyelash curler. One, you won’t need to, because your lashes will have a fabulous perfect curl. Two, it creates undue stress on the lashes and the bonds.
• Do not pull or pluck at your eyelashes. This may cause your natural eyelashes to fall out prematurely before its full growing cycle has matured.

Solvents are devastating! Here is the definition straight from Wikipedia: “A solvent is a liquid, solid, or gas that dissolves another solid, liquid, or gaseous solute.” Think of nail polish remover and the affects it has on semi-permanent nail polish. The magical glue in your new eyelash extensions can fall victim to you going home and dissolving the eyelash adhesive with your own products. Here is some advice:

• Oil-based products are the prey solvents. They will loosen the lash extension’s glue bond leaving you going to the salon for a refill sooner than any of us would like.
• Go ahead and use your makeup remover and even your mascara just be sure that it is oil-free. Most are not oil based, but be careful!
• Check and be certain that your face cleansers and cosmetics don’t contain glycols and other solvents.
• Purchase an after-care kit for your eyelash extensions. Common items in a kit are extension conditioner, water-based makeup remover, and other oil-free products.

The process of getting eyelash extensiones is relaxing and pain-free! Now, let us set the stage. Coming into our cozy boutique salon you will be greeted by a sweet stylist who will offer you a cup of tea or hot coffee. She will lead you to our comfy massage table. The music will be peaceful, the atmosphere uplifting. Laying down with your back on the table the simple process with a surreal payoff will begin. For the next two hours you will be laying peacefully with your eyes closed. Many clients just fall asleep as they don’t feel a thing. The lashes never touch your skin nor do the tweezers we use to install the synthetic lashes. Gently and gracefully your stylist will isolate your natural lashes one by one and apply the new eyelashes using a non-irritating adhesive. One hair at a time, for the next two hours your stylist will brush your eyelashes with tweezers until the fullness you desire is achieved! It is a completely pain free procedure. There is absolutely no discomfort or pain. We invite our clients to relax and even find a new meaning to the term “beauty sleep!”

We allow for two full hours when applying a full-set to a client. Touch up appointments can be from 30 minutes to 1 hour. The time it takes depends upon the number of lashes applied.

Lash extensions are even safe for those who wear contacts. The process is meticulous and of the highest quality without compromising the health of your eyelashes, skin or eyes.
